55 and Better Day
Thursday, September 28th
will feature
55 and Better Day at Ak-Sar-Ben’s River City Roundup.
Several activities are being planned for those individuals age
55 and older. Sponsored by the Eastern Nebraska Office on Aging,
Blue Cross and Blue Shield, KKAR and Wells Fargo. The event will
feature entertainment, health screenings, service information
and a blood drive sponsored by the Red Cross and the Nebraska
Beef Council.
Tough
Enough to Wear Pink
Wear your pink shirts on Thursday,
September 28th at the opening night of the ProRodeo Summer Tour
Finale in support of Wrangler’s Tough Enough to Wear Pink (TETWP)
campaign. One dollar for every ticket sold will benefit the
Susan G. Komen Foundation- Nebraska Chapter. TETWP is a
year-long western industry initiative to raise awareness and
funds for breast cancer research. Join the cowboys, cowgirls and
rodeo personal as we meet our goal of having a sea of pink in
the crowd on Thursday night!
Mutton
Bustin/ Kids Stick Horse Rodeo
Do you have a little Buckaroo who
wants to be just like the cowboys and cowgirls at the ProRodeo
Summer Finale? Here’s your chance to
register them for the Mutton Bustin and Stick Horse Rodeo at
this year’s event. The Thursday, Sept. 28th performance will
feature both activities. Registration for these two events will
take place Friday, August 25th beginning at 10:00 a.m. central
time. The first ten mutton bustin participants and the first
twenty stick horse rodeo participants who call (402) 554-9600
ext. 100 will be registered. Mutton Bustin participants must be
between the ages of 5-7 and weigh less then 55 pounds. Each
participant must sign a liability release form and return it to
our office by September 15th. Stick Horse Rodeo participants
must be between ages 4-9. Two age categories: 4-6 year
olds and 7-9 year olds. Each participant must sign a liability
release form and return it to our office by September 15th.
Cheerleading
Competition
The 2nd Annual
High School Cheerleading & Dance Competition is open to all
teams from Nebraska and Western Iowa. Squads will compete
against each other and showcase their talents! The competition
takes place Sat. Sept. 30 and the general public is invited to
attend and watch these energetic groups. If your team is
interested in participating please contact the Ak-Sar-Ben River

nights of action!! All ticket prices include both the rodeo and
concert. Thursday, Sept. 28th features the ProRodeo Summer

TROY and Saturday, Sept. 30th features the ProRodeo
Summer Finale and SUGARLAND. Tickets are available at

Art Show
The Ak-Sar-Ben Invitational
Art Show and Sale will feature an exhibition of twelve
nationally recognized artists including Michael Albrechsten, Mel
Gerhold, Ted Long, George Lundeen, Del & Martha Pettigrew and
more! The premiere opening and fixed price sale will take place
on Friday, Sept. 29th. To attend these event please contact

during Ak-Sar-Ben’s River City Roundup Friday, Sept. 29th
through Sunday, Oct. 1st.
Kids Activities
From AgVentureland, to Funky
Farmworks, Giddy Up Gulch to the Heritage Parade free family fun
is everywhere at this year’s event. AgVentureland gives children
the opportunity to participate in different modified faming
events to teach them the importance of agriculture in our every
day life. Funky Farmworks is a stage show which explores the fun
side of science and farming while Giddy Up Gulch allows children
to dress up just like a real cowboy as they make their own
vests, neckerchief and visit Clem’s Chuckwagon. More free family
events not to miss include Construction Junction, the Purina
Checkerboard Corral petting zoo, the Great Model Train show,
Heritage Parade and
much more!
Red
Hats
Red Hat Society members are invited for a full day of fun as
part of Ak-Sar-Ben’s River City Roundup. Sandwiched before
and after the luncheon, we’ll have presentations by Jo Ellen
Simon, world-renowned sugar artist, Lisa Turner, Owner of Turner
Events and Marketing, and Mindell Rethwisch, Co-Owner of
Details. The Nebraska Beef Council will also host a cooking
demonstration on its cooking stage, cooking up and serving
recipes from The Healthy Beef Cookbook. Cost to attend is $25

Purple Ribbon Auction
The
Purple Ribbon Auction featuring the sale of the 2006
Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Exposition champion animals will take place
Sunday, Oct. 1st at 5:00 p.m. The animals are auctioned to the
highest bidder and the money raised helps insure the future
education of young people interested in agriculture and help
support the 4-H Livestock Exposition. The amount raised over the
guarantee amount will be distributed back to recognize boys and
girls who won top prizes as bonuses and support the production
